I am finished with deviantArt.
It is one thing to not be responsible for other people behaving badly, it's another altogether to give those people a free for all.
I was appalled to learn that DA has a new download option that automatically checks a box that allows other people to download images. Having the box there is fine. Even the default check is okay (although exasperating), except that all the images I have previously uploaded are now available for download access. I would have to go into each image and uncheck these boxes from images I already put up. That is a headache and I would rather spend that time deleting my images.
While the images of my paintings are not really good enough for downloading, the idea that this new function was handled this way is unsettling and shows the complete lack of respect for the artist. I tried to ignore it and justify the copy right policy, but this is too much.
Since I am in my last semester of school I was unable to check DA or submit deviations for quite awhile. This means I have no idea how long my images were available for anyone to take. I do NOT work for free. If someone wanted a a downloaded image to stick on their wall, if they contacted me, I would most likely agree. I'm nice. However, the decision was taken from me and that is not acceptable.
